Why is Sleep So Important?

mental health personal story Jan 05, 2022

I always thought my low moods back in the day were caused by drinking the night before. Now although that had a huge impact, the lack of a good sleep also completely ruined my mood on the post drinking days.

Since I no longer drink, I thought those hangover days would be over but NOOOOOO! Just a bad sleep gives a similar feeling.

So I had a terrible sleep last night. Went to see the Matrix 4 with a friend (don't go see it) and got to bed at 1:30am.

I woke up at my normal 7:00am but just wasn't fresh at all. Brain was foggy, body felt tight and I had a headache. Throughout the day I just found myself with less ability to tolerate challenges that came up through the day.

For me personally, a solid nights sleep can even outweigh the importance of eating healthy and exercising.

I always knew sleep was important for me but now I know the moodiness in the past wasn't only from drinking, it was from the lack of a good snooze.

I remember turning down  so many easy hook ups and one night stands just because I knew I'd be sacrificing sleep lmfaoooo.

"Yeah so I'm down if we're done by 10:30pm and you sleep on the couch? Cool?"

Sleep should be taken so seriously but I feel we're just not there yet as a culture. We should make our bedrooms the coziest and most relaxing places in our homes. No electronics, only red or soft yellow light and an investment on a mattress that doesn't come from IKEA.

Holy shit I sound old LOL. I'm writing a damn blog post about having a nice bedroom now. If you catch me watching Property Brothers tomorrow afternoon please kick me in the balls.

Sleep well and if it really affects your mood, say no to those hook ups and arguments with your partner in the evening. It's not worth it man.

Thanks for reading.
