The Bare Necessities

mental health personal story Oct 19, 2021

Remember the Jungle Book? Or do you only remember the eyes of that damn snake, Kaa.

I'm listening to the song "Bare Necessities" right now. Not only does it bring nostalgia and I can barely type as the feeling just washes over me but it reminds me of a simple truth.....Just think about what you actually need to enjoy yourself and the time you occupy, you may find you don't need much.

If I asked you "Hiya buddy! Can you tell me what your perfect day looks like?"

How would you answer? Would it really involve private jets, massive online followings, bigger paycheques and eating twinkies? Well yeah, it might involve a couple twinks. Remember in the movie Zombieland that guy who's mission it was to find a twinkie? Yeah, me too. Anyways...

Your perfect day may involve some simple things like mine. Hanging out with your best pals, laughing, spending time with family, eating some really great meals (rib eye steak with oysters), spending time in nature, play music, sun sets, sun rises and then taking a sweet dump with your shirt off.

I think about my travelling experience and they all have a similar takeaway each time I come back home: I was happy with just a backpack of clothes, items for hygiene, a kindle and some music.

I'm not saying go all minimalism and live in a tiny home. The people that can do that clearly don't have hobbies that require space. I love my drum kit, guitars, amps and piano, not to mention my new love for cooking.

If we ask ourselves about what we would bring travelling or what our perfect day looks like, we realize whats truly important in our lives and what we value.

The bare necessities are more than enough for me right now. Less is more at this time in my life and am just so excited and grateful I get to share this journey with family and friends (and you of course!)
