No One Will Ever Really Know

mental health random thoughts Jan 28, 2022

Is it enough for only you to know? Is it enough for only me to know?

Well, it has to be. That's the truth of reality.

The most difficult truth is knowing that no matter how much I explain, write, and express, no one except me will know my journey.

The difficulty with social media is we just peak through little windows into other peoples lives and jump to conclusions of truth. We think we know what's happening around the world by watching the evening news and reading social posts for an hour. We think we actually know. We believe fully that we know.

We don't. I don't. We both know so little it's actually funny to think about.

If someone posted something every single day, I still have absolutely no idea who they are. I have but a little peep hole into their existence and then get caught into thinking I have the information to believe I'm somehow worse, better, the same as, morally superior etc... to someone else.

Nahhhh, I'm superior to no one. Now, this doesn't mean I can't make fun of other people and judge. People watching with friends and creating stories around strangers behaviour is the ultimate pastime and nod to the common man. I'd invite you to watch Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee for a taste.

We all provide the window, peep hole (peep hole sounds dirty, whatever) to others so they can gaze into our lives and have a look. But they can never, ever, really know what it's like to be you.

No one will ever know what I've been through and no one will ever know what you've been through either. Your wife or husband, parents, brothers, sisters, therapists, man they can come close; but to see through your eyes, to think your own thoughts, to experience reality the way you do, that's all you.

I find myself wishing at times that I could do a Vulcan mind meld and share consciousness with another person. But then another part of me really knows that it's enough only for me to know.

This is what knowing yourself is all about. To befriend your own body, mind and soul. To be in harmony with it all.

Shalom (do a bit of googling and you'll find the word is both fitting here and so awesome)
